Starting April 27, visitors to all 148 FairPrice outlets will be required to provide their NRIC numbers upon entry, a FairPrice spokesperson confirmed with Mothership.

Visitors can either present their NRIC card for scanning or they will be asked to scan a QR code with their phone and sign in with SingPass, or manually key in particulars via the government-developed SafeEntry check-in system.

This will be implemented gradually at all outlets island-wide by end-April and early May.

The FairPrice spokesperson also said that the scanning of NRIC is for contact tracing purposes.

The supermarket chain is not adopting the odd-even system implemented at selected wet markets.

The FairPrice spokesperson also said:

"FairPrice continues to work closely with the authorities and support various measures such as safe distancing, personal protection, as well as enhanced cleaning schedules to protect the well-being of our staff and customers during this period. The latest initiative to facilitate contact tracing at our stores is in compliance with the latest precautionary measures set by the authorities."

Gov.sg WhatsApp channel has also included a reminder to urge members of the public to bring along their NRIC card to supermarkets on April 30:
