Keeping up with Covid-19 doesn’t have to be boring

Be entertained while getting informed.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak hit Singapore, and the country went into circuit breaker mode, most of us have been staying home and trying to stay sane.

Well, if you feel like trying something new at home, here’s an interactive site where you can find the latest Covid-19 information, and be entertained along the way too.

Newly launched by the National Youth Council (NYC), MehGoWhere is specially curated to provide an avenue for youths to not just be informed on the outbreak, but also to connect with others even as you stay home.

From resources to address youth concerns in areas such as jobs, the economy, or mental well-being, to ideas on your next food delivery if you’re sick of home cooking, the site has something nifty for all who are staying at home.

Multiple portals of entertainment & information

At first glance, the site looks like a mish-mash collection of individually styled thumbnails, with a few keywords popping out from the interface that indicate what lies beyond the cover.

Whether it is a site where you can stay woke with the latest stories on Covid-19, to the slightly more light-hearted, like “Covidiots that make Singaporeans scratch their heads”, there is something for everyone.

There is even a link that lets you observe animals in their simulated habitats 24/7, like jellyfishes propelling their bodies forward in water.

Which is strangely hypnotic.

Resources for students

Graduating youth can check out advice offered by industry professionals and access a whole bunch of other resources to arm yourself with new knowledge and skills.

For those seeking some sort of mental respite, you can also look out for tips on how to better manage your mental well-being. Staying at home means more opportunities to connect digitally with your friends and loved ones too!

As for students who are going through home-based learning, they can switch up their routine by taking part in the weekly TikTok challenges.

Hashtagged #MehGoWhereChallenge, the challenge for Week 1 is the handstand challenge that is trending on TikTok at the moment, where people try to put on a T-shirt while doing a handstand.

They can also take a poll to see if other students feel the same way about the whole home-based learning experience. Chances are that they are not the only ones.

Vibe out to your favourite artistes with fellow music fans

If you’re a music fan who misses going to live events and vibing out with fellow concertgoers, you can visit one of the recommended virtual music showcases where you can rock out together, from a safe distance of course.

The atmosphere in your own room might be different from an actual concert, but you can at least take comfort in the fact that you’re still enjoying music from your favourite artistes in real time via livestream, despite the extraordinary circumstances we’re in now.

Singers like Alessia Cara and Yungblud have already performed stripped-down versions of their hits, and some names to look forward to include Bazzi, Monsta X and FINNEAS.

Useful tips

If these features don’t appeal to you so far, the next one should.

If you can’t do without local fare, yet somehow do not wish to make a trip to your neighbourhood hawker centre despite working indoors all day, you might find this list of 10 hawker stalls that deliver to your doorstep useful.

For those who miss Ramadan Bazaars, which have been cancelled this year due to Covid-19, there’s a list of seven halal stalls offering delivery too.

So next time your friend complains about circuit breaker mode as they can’t meet their girlfriend or boyfriend in real life, tell them not to be a “covidiot” and show them this site.

Or if they say they don’t know what to do, show them how others are making use of their time indoors to inspire them to embark on something they’ve always wanted to do, but never really took the time out to do so.

After all, our lives are what we make of it, and need not come to a standstill even if the fight against Covid-19 is still ongoing.

We’re in this together

Chief Executive of NYC, David Chua, sums it up nicely in the following quote:

“We understand that during this period where most of us are at home, we are constantly looking at ways such as picking up a new skill, finding entertainment, connecting with family and friends and so much more.

The NYC recognises that youth are constantly on a lookout for latest and fresh content to be engaged with. Hence, we decided to launch an interactive website which serves as a central repository that will house useful resources and content for youths. Youth can be updated with information such as articles and resources, take part in weekly challenges, and get updates on events happening online.

We hope that youth can continue to stay resilient during this period, be on the lookout for those who need help and make the most of this time to learn new things. Let’s stay strong and we can overcome this together!”

This sponsored content brought to you by the National Youth Council has helped the writer realise that circuit breaker mode doesn’t have to be dull.
