Baey Yam Keng clarifies he's not Peter Yong, Wichai Wachiramat or Colin Chao

Photos of the photogenic politician are used as stock photos for scams.

You might recognise Baey Yam Keng.

He's the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

He's also the Member of Parliament in Tampines GRC.

When he is not speaking in Parliament about local football or breastfeeding, he can be found flexing (his cooking skills) on Instagram.

Or taking selfies.

Fake accounts using his photos

Quite prominent, in fact, that there are people who have attempted to use his photos for their own gains.

Baey put up a Facebook post on April 27 warning followers to be careful of fake accounts that use his photos.

They might look like Baey, but they have names like Peter Yong, Wichai Wachiramat or Colin Chao.

If that isn't enough of a clue, they might request information that a Senior Parliamentary Secretary would probably never ask from you.

For instance, this account dangled an investment capital of US$10,000 (S$14,000) before asking for the recipient's bank account number and phone number.

When Baey confronted one of the fake accounts, he received this reply:

"I'm hustling on this quarantine sir, no vex"

"Please be careful," said Baey.

"We shouldn’t provide personal or confidential details to anyone we are not sure of, especially unsolicited. That includes me or someone seemingly to be me.

All my social media accounts (IG, FB page, Twitter) have a blue tick (except FB profile page and TikTok)."
