Flight attendants aboard Air Asia flights are sporting a new look.

Launched on Apr. 24 during a recovery flight from Bangkok to Manila, cabin crew from the low-cost carrier are now required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) on all domestic and international flights, Jakarta Post reported.

The PPEs were designed in collaboration with Filipino designer Puey Quinones and features the airline's signature red.

Speaking to Metro, AirAsia Philippines vice chairman Sheila Romero said that the PPE was made out of material approved by the Philippines Department of Health.

“The PPE is comfortable because it is not so thick and heavy yet it serves its purpose,” she said.

"I like that it’s chic and sporty — similar to what Formula One race car drivers wear."

Apart from wearing the PPE, cabin crew will also be required to go through temperature checks after each shift and have been trained to identify passengers who feel unwell and need to be isolated, said the airline.

Additionally, passengers will be required to bring their own masks and wear it before, during, and after the flight.

On Apr. 17, Air Asia had announced that it was planning on the resumption of domestic flights in various countries across South East Asia, pending approval from authorities.
