Consumers and corporations have become increasingly conscious of the waste they generate, even if they may not necessarily do something about it.

A Qantas flight that did do something about it, however, carried out a zero waste flight where all in-flight products were disposed of via recycling, composting, or reusing.

You can view the results in stark juxtaposition below (white bags from a typical flight, tiny bag from zero waste flight):

And in his own effort to reduce waste, one Singaporean man, Lik Wong, on a flight from Auckland to Singapore decided to gather unused and sealed food items from other passengers.

Wong shared his experience in a Facebook post on November 3, 2019.

Here are the items that he managed to gather, although he did not state if it was from a single cabin or the entire flight.

Nonetheless, he wrote that it could have been more if other passengers did the same, so one could surmise that the items were likely gathered from a single cabin.

These food items were salvaged over two meals.

Not to shame the aviation industry

Wong clarified that it was not his intention to shame the aviation industry, as he understood that the airlines are subjected to each country's regulations.

Instead, he did not want to waste these items, as the cabin crew reportedly said that all items left on the tray will be trashed upon landing.

This apparently applies to the unopened items as well.

Therefore, Wong requested a crew member to help him to go through the trays and retrieve the sealed items, which she gladly did.

The flight attendant also brought him a child's passenger gift that was left behind.
