A famous braised duck stall in Queenstown will be closing down in end-November 2019.

No Signboard Braised Duck sells braised duck with rice, porridge, and noodles.

Last day on Nov. 27

The stall is manned by 72-year-old Lin Qing Jin and his wife, 71-year-old Chen Sai Yu. They will be retiring due to old age.

Their children have their own careers and will not be taking over the stall from them, the elderly hawkers shared with Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao.

Its last day of operations will be on the last Wednesday of the month, Nov. 27.

Not selling recipe

No Signboard Braised Duck has been around for over 50 years.

The stall used to operate at the former Commonwealth Avenue Wet Market and moved to Mei Ling Market and Food Centre afterwards.

The couple lives in Ang Mo Kio and would wake up at around 4am every day to go to the stall and prepare the ingredients.

They usually close the stall at around 1pm and reach home by the evening to rest.

Lin and Chen have decided not to sell the recipe as the experience needed to operate the stall cannot be bought by money or passed down.

According to the Lin, his brother had tried to open a stall selling braised duck food items with the same recipe, but the latter was unable to produce the same taste without the accumulated experience.

Lin added that the recipe was handed down by his father, but he subsequently revised it.
