Flares were tossed, a riot broke out, and a total of 41 people were arrested on the night of Nov. 19.
But this didn't occur at a political protest.
Instead, the chaotic scenes were seen during a World Cup qualifier football match between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Flares lit up
Matches between the two Southeast Asian neighbours have been quite feisty in the past.
The latest clash at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur recorded an attendance of 85,000, including 6,000 Indonesian fans.
But this confrontation took it up a notch, with flares reportedly thrown at Malaysian supporters during the match itself, according to the Malay Mail.

Videos on social media showed the lit flares among the fans, with arguments over which group starting throwing them in the first place.

After the match, a riot broke out at Entrance E of the Bukit Jalil Stadium, with officers from the Federal Reserve Unit stepping in to restore order.
A total of 27 Malaysian fans and 14 Indonesian fans were arrested.
They have since been released, but investigations are ongoing.
Incidentally, Malaysia won the match 2-0.
