Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao appears to have spooked the Internet out after sharing photos of his Halloween outfit at a party with friends, which included Mandopop star Jay Chou.

Hsiao donned a bright orange-y sweater and black face paint, and he appeared in photos with a rifle or pistol.

Cosplaying as Will Smith?

In Hsiao and Chou's Instagram posts, Hsiao appeared to be dressed as evergreen Hollywood actor Will Smith, sporting a flat top hairstyle and an artificially-darkened face.

Chou was dressed up as Woody, from Toy Story.

Translation:

"Feels like I've gotten better at basketball. Let's save that for later.

I've got to say, I'm the most serious one here!!"

Hsiao also tagged the National Basketball Association and Will Smith in his post.

Here's a gif of Will Smith with a flat top, for comparison's sake:

However, Hsiao took down the post at about 12am on Nov. 1.

The post was up for at least a few good hours.

He shared similar photos on his Weibo account as well.

Chou's post was taken down at about 11:30pm on Oct. 31.

"Happy Halloween everyone! Guess who's dressed up as #willsmith! Swipe right for the answer #halloween"

He later uploaded another post after taking down the original ones:

"Alright, I can only say that your cosplay won this time. I'll let you play all the games @jam_hsiao0330!

Too many people are posting cosplay photos, I just want to be different, and post the ones taken after the cosplay instead."

Chou's wife, Taiwanese-Australian model Hannah Quinlivan also shared photos from the party on her Instagram, but it was taken down soon after as well.

She later re-uploaded her post, with just Chou and herself.

Some fans noticed, and asked:

"Fiendhi: Why did you reupload? What's the difference?"

"bonnie_chen1006: The second image was removed"

Hmmm.

Chinese media thinks it is "innovative"

The faux pas was apparently not a big deal for Chinese media.

Sohu reported on the Halloween party and Hsiao's costume, but did not characterise the get-up as problematic.

Rather, it said it was "innovative".

Another site, QQ News, referred to Hsiao in Chinese as the "black skin guy" and highlighted that responses to his get-up were filled with fun and laughter.

Hsiao dressing up with a weapon could be a nod to Will Smith, who recently has a new action movie out.
