Travel horrors.

Airbnb has become one of the most popular choices among holiday accommodations in the world.

However, it has been no stranger to controversy as its seeming lack of regulations has resulted in many harrowing experiences for travellers and hosts.

Lost S$15,000 worth of branded items from Airbnb apartment

Yvonne Lee, a lady living in Singapore, had an unfortunate encounter while holidaying in Milan, Italy, where her Airbnb apartment was robbed on Nov. 1.

All of her luxury goods, including bags, shoes, and sunglasses, were stolen.

About S$15,000 worth of branded items had disappeared from her apartment.

Door was not forced open, she said

According to Lee, it was rather obvious that the burglar had the keys to the apartment, as the door had not been forced open.

On the same day of the incident, she made a police report and contacted the host, Flats Collection.

Lee said that the helpline staff of Flats Collection promised to call back on Nov. 2 regarding the losses and refunds for their stay. However, they have not called back since, as of Nov. 15, when Lee shared about the experience on Facebook.

She also mentioned that there were no surveillance cameras around the apartment floor, nor in the lift and apartment lobby, which she felt was fishy.

Airbnb offered no help

She also took a screenshot of an email reply from Airbnb, which offered her no assistance in her harrowing encounter.

Fortunately, Lee had bought travel insurance, and managed to submit claims for her lost items.

However, it probably won't make up for the time lost and bad memories of her trip, sadly.
