Labelled one of the worst storms in 60 years when it made landfall last Saturday (Oct 12), the Typhoon Hagibis in Japan left 35 dead and 16 still missing.

More than 180 were injured and power was cut to nearly half a million homes.

Animals affected by typhoon

But humans weren’t the only ones affected by the typhoon.

It was previously reported that strays and lost animals were left to fend for themselves.

One species, however, has now invaded the streets of Shibuya after the typhoon drove them out of their lairs.

Rats taking over Shibuya

Videos of rats scurrying around the streets of Shibuya were posted on Twitter on Oct. 12.

While many were at home recovering from the typhoon, the rats were the only ones scurrying outdoors to find shelter and food.

According to SoraNews24, the video was filmed on a street in Shibuya that is home to popular restaurants like Ippudo and Genki Sushi.

Not the first time in the spotlight

AsiaOne reported that this is not the first time the Shibuya rats have made the news.

On Aug. 6, a Family Mart convenience store closed after the rats made an appearance.

On Aug. 8, a rat was seen in a dress in Shibuya’s H&M store.

The dress didn't fit though.
