A firefighter who was part of the team sent to Sulli's home has been confirmed to be the one who leaked news of the K-pop star's death.

Official apology

On Oct. 17, the Gyeonggi Disaster and Safety Headquarters issued an official apology for the leak of Sulli's death, reported Business Times.

Speaking at a press conference, the head of the monitoring and auditing department Jung Yo Ahn said:

"We wish to sincerely apologise to the public for the external leak of reports about a recent 119 emergency call."

He added that that it was "shameful and disappointing" for the internal information to be leaked by firefighters, who are meant to protect citizen lives and property.

Photo of incident reports leaked

The situation was leaked when one of the firefighters took a photo of the incident reports and forwarded it to a colleague.

His colleague subsequently shared the picture in a group chat with other firefighters.

The information ended up being leaked onto social media.

Details related to the incident were also posted on popular portal sites and blogs.

The identity of the firefighter who took the initial photo was not revealed.

According to Business Times, a document called 'Sulli's Recent Situation' was spread online after her death.

It was an internal document of the Fire Department and should not have been made public.

Ongoing investigation

Investigation related to the leakage is ongoing.

Jung said that strong action against those found guilty will be taken.

He added that the Gyeonggi-do Fire Department will go over their internal reporting system, strengthen their education program, and pursue other measures to ensure that the same thing does not happen again.

"As an organisation responsible for the safety of the people, we apologise once again for causing concern to the bereaved family and the public. Everyone in Gyeonggi-do Fire Department officials will do their best to ensure the safety of the people."

Sulli's death

Sulli's death was announced on Oct.14 after she was found dead in her apartment.

According to Gyeonggi Police Station, Sulli died at 3.21pm in her home in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, reported Allkpop.

Sulli's manager found her dead when she visited her home after not being able to reach her over the phone.

119 paramedics were dispatched to the site but they were too late.

Speculation over her death

There has been much speculation over the former f(x) member's death.

Paramedics noted signs of cardiac arrest and post-death paralysis.

Investigations over her death are still ongoing.

According to The Straits Times, an autopsy into Sulli's death has ruled out foul play but results of drug and toxicology tests are still pending.

The police will only close the case if drug and toxicology results are normal.
