In a mix of genuine kindness and hilarious elderly grumpiness, a 63-year-old man sought to return a winning 4D ticket he picked up in Redhill.

The man had actually bought some tickets from Redhill on October 5, 2019.

He had bought S$10 worth of 4D tickets, and unbeknownst to him, a few that he had grabbed from the counter weren't actually his.

The man, who wanted to be known as Yang, contacted Shin Min Daily News about his story.

Yang had only realised the snafu later that night when he was checking the numbers on the ticket. One of the tickets was dated earlier than the time he bought the tickets.

In a freak coincidence, it was that number that struck a bit of cash.

The ticket, which he showed Shin Min, had the number 4069 on it, which was one of the starter prizes that day.

This left Yang in a bit of a pickle, the ticket, which was bought for S$20, would have netted him a cool S$5,000, but ultimately Yang was quite adamant on what he had to do.

He claimed that since the money was not his, he felt no inclination to cash it in.

But here's the conundrum that Yang truly experienced. He definitely did want to return the ticket to the rightful owner, but found it too bothersome to go back and return the ticket to the outlet he bought it from.

In fact, here's his quote to Shin Min.

“我想做好人也这么麻烦,所以决定通过报纸呼吁,希望能物归原主。这笔财富不属于我,我不想贪图。”

("I want to be a good person but it's so troublesome, so I decided to reach out to the press in hopes of finding the owner. This money does not belong to me so I don't covet it.")

And that is why he contacted the Chinese daily to get the message out.

Genius.
