Local catering company AG (Global) Events Catering was fined S$5,000 on Oct. 16 for improper storage of food and poor maintenance of its premises.

Lapses found during a routine inspection

On June 19 2019, a routine inspection of the caterer's premises by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) led to several lapses being discovered.

There was improper thawing of raw meat and improper storage of uncovered raw ingredients on the floor.

Inspectors also found that there was contamination of uncovered cooked food by condensate from an unclean ceiling.

There were structural damages to the flooring and wall tiles, which were dirty, and an ill-maintained chiller system led to water leakage.

The premises was also infested with live cockroaches and houseflies.

Caterer's license suspended for 27 days

According to SFA, all finished food products, semi-processed food items and raw ingredients were disposed immediately after the inspection.

The operating license of the catering company was also suspended by SFA for 27 days, from June 20 to July 16, 2019.

The suspension was later lifted after the company had rectified the lapses, and taken measures to improve the cleanliness of its premises.

Adrian Lim Teck Lien, 42, the sole proprietor of the catering company, was fined S$5,000 after pleading guilty to two charges of breaching regulations on the storage of food and the maintenance of the food establishment.

Catered for big events previously

According to The New Paper, the catering company was the caterer for several big events, including the Standard Chartered Marathon in 2013, and the arrival ceremony of the giant pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai in 2012.

Other past clients include numerous government agencies and schools, such as the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

SFA prosecutor Daniel Lim also stated that the cater had previously been warned for poor hygiene practices, but these practices continued to persist.

Food operators who do not adhere to regulations are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding S$5,000, and a further fine not exceeding S$100 for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues after conviction.
