"S'pore style" Bak Kut Teh soba, without star anise, now selling at S$7.40 in Tokyo

It all started with eating Bak Kut Teh as an attempt to relieve their hangover when they were in Singapore.

And now the team from Fujisoba Overseas Group has invented a new flavour of soba which they have recently launched in Japan.

Yes, and that is the Bak Kut Teh soba.

According to their news release, some of their colleagues tried Bak Kut Teh at a food court in Singapore.

They found that breaking out in sweats from eating Bak Kut Teh helps relieve hangover, and it became a routine for them.

Hence, they would like to "bring this sensation to Japan" and describe the flavour to be one that may "shock" the Japanese eaters.

The soba chain added that the strong peppery and garlic taste may not appeal to all Japanese.

This is because it's not a flavour that they are accustomed to.

However, the team still chose to be bold and stick to the Singapore-style as much as possible.

Selling at S$7.40 in some Tokyo outlets

The Bak Kut Teh soba is now selling at several outlets in Tokyo at Koenji, Fujisawa, Ueno Hirokoji, Otakibashi, Akabane, Ikebukuro, Roppongi, Tsudanuma and Dogenzaka.

Each bowl is priced at 590 yen which is about S$7.40.

It will cost an additional 160 yen (about S$2) to add slices of pork.

The soup base of Bak Kut Teh soba also comes without star anise.
