Adopting a pet is a huge responsibility, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances might tear the pet and owner apart.

Either way, its usually the pet that suffers the most during this situation.

Hardship dogs experience when returned to the shelter they came from

One volunteer at Uncle Khoe K9 Shelter, Johnny Khoe, shared a sad story of a dog put up for adoption once again.

This is Hugo.

Hugo was previously a stray at the shelter. However after being adopted, his owners of almost four years had to return him.

The owners were apparently moving houses and could not bring the dog along with them.

Khoe elaborated on the pain, confusion and anxiety the dogs experienced when they were being returned back to the shelter they grew up in, something which the ex-owners don't see.

Not only were the dogs heartbroken, but so were the shelter volunteers and caretakers who received them.

"What their ex families don't see, is the look of confusion the dogs have when we come by to pick him/her up. The tears we caretakers shed when we hug the dog in the car, trying to reassure both oneself and the dog that everything will be ok..

What they don't see, is the feeling of anxiety the dog felt when we arrived at the shelter. The feeling of fear n uncertainty with every step he/she takes towards the shelter. What they don't hear, is the cries and the whines of the dog when he is placed in the foreign kennel with so many dogs barking around him.."

However, Khoe assured, both himself and the dog, that the shelter caretakers would always have the dogs' back and care for them again like family.

"Our promise was that no matter what, ALL our dogs, will always be family.. to have their back when it seems like their whole world crashes around them. That we will be there for them to pick up the broken pieces of their hearts when they get returned. That we will be there every step of the way, to make them smile again and be happy."

Netizens sympathetic

Many netizens were sympathetic to Hugo's plight.

Some netizens pointed out that thankfully, Hugo had been returned to the specific shelter he was from and was back in the hands of people who knew and cared for him.

Hopefully Hugo finds a new, loving home where he spend the rest of his life at.
