A female body wearing a life jacket has been found in Kemaman, Terengganu on Aug. 14.

According to 8World, the body belongs to 57-year-old Puah Geok Tin, a Singaporean kayaker.

According to the Director of Maritime Malaysia (Mersing) Maritime Commander Haris Fadzillah Abdullah, who spoke to Malaysian state media Bernama, the body arrived at the Kemaman Maritime Zone at 4:30pm, and was on its way to Hospital Kermaman for Puah's family to identify, as well as for a post-mortem.

"With this latest discovery, the search at the nearest islands around Endau has been halted for the time being as we have already searched that area," he was quoted saying.

Bernama reported that the body was found 18 nautical miles away from where the kayak the two Singaporeans were in was found on Tuesday, which in turn was 100 nautical miles away from their last known location.

Puah has been reported missing since Aug. 9 along with fellow kayaker Tan Eng Soon, 62.

The body was found by a fisherman in the area at around 12:55 pm. The fisherman then informed the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) reported The Straits Times.

The Singapore consulate and Puah's family have been notified. Puah's family has been asked to help identify the body.

Missing for six days

Puah and and Tan went missing while on a kayaking trip with 13 other Singaporeans in Mersing, Johor, Malaysia.

At around 5:40pm on Aug. 8, the pair was separated from the group while they were in between Pulau Sri Buat, Pahang and Pulau Mertang in Endau waters, due to the turbulent sea and strong winds.

A search and rescue mission involving personnel from the Endau Police Station, the Marine Operations Force, Civil Defence Department and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency was mounted at Penyabong jetty in Johor at about 3:30 pm on Aug. 9.

On Aug. 13, the kayak belonging to the duo washed ashore in Kuantan, where it was discovered by a fisherman.

Some of their belongings, such as a mobile phone, passport and PAssion card belonging to Tan, along with two wallets, a bag of clothes and a paddle were retrieved.

Relatives of the two missing Singaporeans are in Mersing to help with rescue efforts, as the size of the search area was doubled to about 900 square nautical miles, or 3,000 sq km, between the east and north of Pulau Tioman in Pahang.

The search continues for Tan.
