A fire broke out in a HDB flat at Block 257 Yishun Ring Road on July 14, 2019 morning.

The fire reportedly stemmed from a personal mobility device (PMD) that was being charged, according to Stomp.

Neighbours work together to help out

Upon hearing screams for help, a group of neighbours decided to try and put out the fire with water buckets and a hose while waiting for the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to arrive.

This act was captured on video:

Two men even came forward to save five cats that were trapped in the flat, getting injured with long scratches in the process.

Thankfully, four of the cats remained unharmed, although one was slightly burnt.

One woman could be seen cradling a ginger cat in her arms outside the burning flat:

SCDF eventually responded to the fire at about 10:10am and extinguished it by using two compressed-air foam (CAF) backpacks.

According to a spokesman, two people were taken to the hospital due to suspected smoke inhalation.

Praise from Singaporeans

News of the rescue were met with positive responses.

Many commended the individuals involved for their teamwork and risking their lives to save the cats:
