Facebook user Shirli Aw claimed to have purchased some fish milt from Don Don Donki at its Orchard Central branch on January 10, 2019.
Here it is.
The term "Milt" (Shirako in Japanese) is basically the fish's sperm sac.
And according to a review on HungryGoWhere, it's actually really good.
"And though the squeamish might flee at the thought of ingesting fish sperm, milt is actually really delicious.
It's creamy and custard-like in texture, and packs a slightly sweet and subtle savoury flavour."
If you zoom in closer to the milt, you can see what Shirli is upset about — a brown worm she found crawling around in it.
Aw helpfully does that in one of her videos.
Aw also mentioned in her post that she apparently contacted Don Don Donki to inform them about the worm."Yesterday, I bought the fish milt and was going to cook it in soup — lo and behold, while preparing to cook it this worm-like parasite wriggled out of the fish milt.
Called their customer service line (10th Jan) and they said that someone at their HQ would call us this morning (11th Jan), and then told us to lodge a formal complaint over email. So far there has been NO reply over email, NOR have we received a call — so, we’re putting this out there to warn the public."
Reactions
Some of the reactions mirrored Aw's.
While others thought it looked quite adorable actually.
With one bringing up a very pertinent point.
And another making this claim.
Fresh as heck
That last point is actually right on the nose.
It is a known, but probably less-often-repeated fact that fish are crawling with parasites and worms.
In fact, here's a plus point made by celebrity chef Gary O'Hanlon: the presence of worms in a fish means it really is super-duper fresh.
He also told The Independent UK that white fish are more likely to have these worms.
“A piece of white fish like cod has lots of worms. And you look at it and think that looks amazing but I look at it and say there’s a worm there and a worm there.”
Perhaps the broader question though, comes from these two insightful men:
Fish sperm sacs are actually considered really healthy though.
But yeah, *shudders*

History, unlike statues, can't be painted over. Here's why the Stamford Raffles statue got painted over anyway.
