This is a really bizarre story.

It all started when a boy, Chong, came to Singapore to meet his friend, who stayed at Sturdee Road.

While here, Chong was planning to get a job as well.

On Dec. 26, 2018, while going down to get lunch with the S$50 his friend had lent him, he realised something.

He was lost.

Lost, lost

Now, Chong wan't lost in the typical humdrum sense where you can't find a specific building or road.

According to Says, and Sin Chew, the boy couldn't tell the buildings apart, and was soon hopelessly lost.

It has to be said that missing posters were promptly put up, presumably by the boy's worried friend, and spread across the net.

Here it is.

Unbeknownst to the friend though, Chong was having a really tough time in Singapore.

Toilets and apartments

Chong was in a bit of a pickle.

He had left his passport, phone, and the cash he brought, all at his friend's place.

So, he had basically no identification, and only around S$50 on his person.

He ate cai fan (economy rice) everyday, and surprisingly, that lasted him around eight days, after which he had to beg for money from strangers.

During this time, he also slept outside apartments, none of which were his friend's apartment, and used toilets in shopping malls and cafes.

He didn't dare to tell Singaporeans about his plight because he was shy, and unsure how they would react.

He also couldn't identify any police stations in Singapore.

By the end, he was starving and dehydrated.

Chong was put out of his misery when an elderly woman recognised him from the missing posters and approached him.

Chong has now returned to Malaysia, and told Sin Chew that he has no intentions to return to Singapore for the foreseeable future.

Poor thing.

Reports said he is 18 years old.

History, unlike statues, can't be painted over. Here's why the Stamford Raffles statue got painted over anyway.
