It's always nice to read stories about parents supporting their kids in whatever they do.

Here's the perfect example of that.

Conversation with Carouseller

One lady, Jinghan Naan, recently took to Facebook to share a conversation between her father and a Carouseller.

Jinghan said that she helped to arrange the meet-up and passed her father the address to pick up the item.

Upon meeting her father, Jinghan said that the Carouseller was "confused because he was expecting a Malay".

Jinghan's father then explained that the person who arranged the meeting was his daughter, a Chinese Muslim who converted to Islam.

The Carouseller then asked if he tried to stop her from converting. He responded, saying that he supported her decision.

Her father's reason

Jinghan, upon hearing about this exchange, said that she asked her father: "Actually pa, why did you let me convert?”

This was his simple, yet profound, response (translated from Chinese):

“Because I understand life. Because I understand the pursuit of happiness.

What’s the purpose of life? To seek happiness.

Different people find happiness in different things. Some in wealth, some in family, some in religion...

As parents, what do we want most? For our children to be happy.

Every religion teaches good.

If you were to tell me that this religion makes you happy, why should I stop you?”

Just wants her to be happy

A lot of of what her father said is "common sense", she said.

Jinghan added that it would take a lot to put it in practice, but she firmly believed that her father truly meant what he said.

Even if it means that she cannot "eat his favourite BBQ with him", Jinghan said that her father's "sole concern was really just [her] happiness".
