It turns out he'd spend S$280 on rock sugar.

Fake goods and China go hand-in-hand, and the sale of illegal drugs there is not immune to this phenomenon.

And for some people, it appears that the issue of being sold fake drugs is an issue that supersedes everything else.

A man in China's Jiangsu Province lodged a police report after discovering that the meth he had purchased for 1,400 yuan (S$280) was really rock sugar, Taiwanese media outlet Apple Daily reported on Jan. 21.

However, as the man, whose surname is Wang, had also revealed in his interview with the police that he had taken drugs a few days before making his purchase of rock sugar, he was detained as well.

Complaint taken seriously

That is not to say the police did not take his initial complaint seriously, however.

Apple Daily reported that Wang had first made his purchase of "meth" on Jan. 15 from a drug dealer named Zhou, buying a total of 1.59g.

Wang then went to a concealed location in order to smoke it, only to discover that the "meth" he had purchased was really rock sugar.

This made Wang extremely angry, resulting in his decision to report the matter to the police as he wanted to retrieve his money back from the dealer.

Apple Daily further reported that the police analysed the substance and confirmed that it was indeed rock sugar.

No narcotics ingredients were found in the substance.

Got himself detained and the drug dealer arrested

Apple Daily highlighted that Wang also blew his own position during his interview with the police, when he admitted to taking drugs a few days prior to making the purchase of the fake meth.

This resulted in his detainment.

The police still followed through with Wang's original report, however, and were successful in arresting Zhou via clues provided by the aggrieved buyer.

Kudos to the police for taking their job seriously.
