Awwww.

This is ultimately a story about Singaporeans banding together to help a stray kitty.

On Wednesday, October 24, one Masz Masuri wrote a Facebook post detailing his experience rescuing a frightened tabby from a busy tunnel along the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).

Masz had spotted what he thought to be a stray cat while travelling through the KPE's long tunnel toward the East Coast Parkway.

He turned back to check if his suspicions were right.

Unfortunately, they were.

He found a stray tabby, which he later named "Tabby", huddled at the side of the tunnel.

It was around 5pm at the time, he wrote, so traffic was starting to pick up.

This was when Masz sprang into action.

Here he is rescuing the cat.

And placing it safely in his car.

This was made easier with the help of LTA’s Expressway Monitoring Advisory System (EMAS).

Brought to the vet

That itself is a commendable act, but Masz wasn't done by a long shot.

He took it straight to Clementi Animal Clinic to get it checked out.

Even getting it some x-rays.

While the scans fortunately showed no broken bones, Tabby still couldn't stand or walk, which the vet suspects could be a result of damaged nerves.

He wrote in an update to his post:

"Hi everyone thank you for all the overwhelming respond and support. ‘Tabby’ is now in the clinic ward resting under painkiller. So far xRays shows no broken bones but she still can’t stand or walk(vet suspect could be damaged nerve). Possible rehabilitation and acupuncture treatment required after discharged. She is also not sterilised. I have attached the initial invoice for now and future treatment cost is not finalised yet."

Chipping into cost of treatment

This is when even more kind people started chipping in.

The cost of the treatment was a bit too steep for Masz, who appealed for donations to cover the cost of the treatment.

"I am taking this opportunity to appeal for help in defraying the cost as I don’t earn much as a PHV driver. Account details are as follow and no amount is too small."

A call which was duly answered.

"Donations are pouring in and so far a total of $682.00 has been collected so far. I will list the names soonest tomorrow."

The initial cost of the clinic visit came up to S$250.

The latest update at 10am on Thursday, October 25, confirms Tabby's condition has stabilised, but he still skittish and hasn't eaten since the night before.

Here he is looking much better.

Masz is currently looking for a fosterer and/or adopter to care for her.

Not a first-time kitty rescuer

If you're thinking this man saving a stray cat from traffic sounds familiar, it's because he actually did it once before.
