Vending machines for all sorts of things have been popping up in Singapore.
These include vending machines for dried bouquets:
And even mystery prizes (which have been deemed illegal, by the way):
Now, people can buy sex toys from a vending machine too.
MimiBox vending machines
Operated by MimiBox, sex toy vending machines can be found within a shop space in Geylang.
They are available 24 hours a day.
This is what some of their vending machines look like:
To purchase an item, customers simply key in the item number on the keypad, insert the money, and then collect the item:
The vending machines are located at 340 Geylang Road, #01-18.
This is the only location listed on the MimiBox website.
Legal in Singapore?
Although there are visible signs in the shop space stating that customers have to be 18 and above, the laws in Singapore are vague on whether it is legal to sell sex toys here.
According to Section 292 of the Penal Code, anyone who sells, rent or distribute anything deemed to be “obscene” can be sentenced to jail for three months, a fine, or both.
However, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has set boundaries for sex shops, barring businesses whose primary purpose is to sell products related to sexual activity from situating themselves within or near residential areas, including private residential estates, HDB housing estates and town centres or neighbourhoods.
