Oppo and Lamborghini made a baby. Here’s what the smartphone looks like.

Congratulations.

Not sure who is the mother or father in this equation, but Oppo, a consumer electronics brand from China, has teamed up with Lamborghini to give birth to an offspring.

Its name is none other than OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition.

This is not to be confused with Tonino Lamborghini, the luxury car’s own line of smartphones.

Just like the supercar, the Find X Automobili Lamborghini is covered in the same carbon fiber texture found on Lamborghini.

And it’s just as fast -- in terms of charging, that is. With the SuperVOOC Flash Charge, the phone battery can apparently go from 0% to 100% in 35 minutes.

User interface

The phone comes with an impressive 8GB RAM + 512GB storage space, making it a great phone for photo/video/app hoarders.

Check out its camera in action here:

The OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini retails at 9,999 RMB (approx SGD 2035.54), and will be available in China from August onwards.

Its availability in Singapore is still unconfirmed, but who knows? Maybe if this generates enough interest, Oppo will launch it here soon.

Part of the Find X series launch

Of course, not everyone can afford $2,000 phones, luckily we have a more affordable alternative -- the Oppo Find X.

Touted as Oppo’s flagship phone, the Find X comes with a feature that’s kinda uncommon in modern smartphones -- a pop-up camera.

Thank you Changi Recommends for the VPN configured mobile WiFi so we could Instagram stuff freely in China.

While Brian Shen, Assistant Vice President of Oppo, explained that the purpose of the pop-up mechanism is to give the phone a more unified design, we realised there might be a better function for it -- to prevent potential phone camera spying.

Since the camera is covered most of the time, paranoid people won’t have to worry about hackers hacking into the phone’s camera and spying on them.

Plus, said paranoid people will also get to watch shows in mega full screen, without any notches in the way.

With a screen ratio of 93.8%, the Find X supposedly possesses the narrowest border in the world of Android phones.

Camera functions

Both the front and back cameras come with several functions such as portrait mode and professional mode.

Portrait mode

Similar to the portrait mode on other smartphone brands, Oppo’s version also gives photos more depth by blurring the background and giving the main subject more focus.

Professional mode

On the other hand, its professional mode adds a more contrasted and HD-feel to the entire photo.

The front camera is 25-megapixel, while the rear camera is 16-megapixel.

Another notable camera function is the 3D facial recognition AI that can detect different aspects of a person’s face -- eyes, nose, cheekbones, jaw, and chin -- so that users can shape and edit selfies easily.

Here's how it works:

And you know what else the facial recognition AI is good for?

Buying things with your face

Instead of a fingerprint scanner, the Find X is equipped with a 3D Facekey function, which means users can unlock the phone with its front camera, much like Apple’s Face ID.

According to Shen, the 3D Facekey projects 15,000 facial points onto a user’s face to accurately capture a 3D image of the person.

We’re not sure if it can tell the difference between identical twins/doppelgänger though.

Also not sure if it will work with heavy make-up

As for the buying things part, the Find X is the first Android phone that supports 3D facial payment for Alipay. This means users can even purchase stuff online via facial payment, making online shopping more convenient than it already is (thus making the hole in your wallet bigger than it already is).

Choose from two colours -- Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue, as well as two storage options, 8GB+128GB standard version for 4,999 RMB (approx SGD1017.48), and the 8GB+256GB SuperVOOC for 5,999 RMB (approx SGD1221.02).

The Find X phones are available via online and offline channels in China from July 13, and will be available in Singapore in August.
