And the heat is on.
The Taiwanese actress tailed by paparazzi for the whole day when she and Najib Razak's son gallivanted around Taipei has broken her silence.
In a Facebook post, Celia Zhang, 34, said she paid for the day out and did not receive money or gifts from Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, the son of the former prime minister of Malaysia.
Statement issued by representative
The post was put up by a spokesperson from Zhang's management agency.
"Zhang does not want the issue to be prolonged further and asks everyone not to worry," it said in Chinese.
The post further said that after reading the comments criticising her, Zhang understood that Malaysians were infuriated over the incident.
However, the spokesperson added that the agency reserved the right to take legal action over any insults or threats made against Zhang.
Zhang has been bearing the brunt of insults and allegations ever since the news broke on Friday, July 6, that she was with Najib's son right after his father was charged with corruption in Malaysia.
Taiwanese news portal Apple Daily reported that Nazifuddin was spotted spending a day with Zhang in Taipei as copious footage of the couple was splashed online.
Prevented from using Facebook
Apple Daily has also followed up its initial report that Zhang's manager is preventing the Taiwanese actress from accessing her Facebook page.
It is out of fear the comments there may "unsettle" her.
No romantic relationship
Zhang has also denied any romantic relationship with Nazifuddin.
The actress said that she took a cab home after their meeting and did not spend the night with him.
She did not deny that they held hands but said that it was just for a minute.
Apple Daily also said Zhang also strongly denied that there was any romantic notions when she and Nazifuddin kissed, saying it was "just a way of saying goodbye".
The meeting between the two took place a day after Najib père was released on bail following his arrest on July 3 for his role in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
Duo introduced by Singaporean
The portal further said that acting was a side job for Zhang, who prefers to dabble in investments.
She has business interests in nail salons and pet hotels, with a monthly income of over TWD100,000 (S$4,459).
It also said that Nazifuddin was introduced to Zhang through a mutual Singaporean friend.

According to her friend, as quoted by Apple Daily, Nazifuddin started wooing Zhang a year ago, although she was already in a relationship.
It was only when Zhang broke up with her boyfriend that Mohd Nazifuddin began pursuing her in earnest.
However, the status of their relationship is unknown and it cannot be confirmed if they are officially a couple.
A check on Zhang's Facebook page showed that her last post was made on Saturday, June 30.
