Cat abuse is disgustingly rampant in Singapore.

And it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon.

Coloured red and green

In a Facebook post on July 29, Firdaus B. Zulkifli wrote about a cat he found at Blk 9005 Tampines Industrial Park A, behind Safra Tampines.

The animal's face and bottom had been coloured with red and green markers.

Firdaus and his wife, Yenny Christina, tried to clean the cat up.

The cat remained calm and compliant as the couple tried to help it, indicating its lack of wariness around humans, as well as its trusting nature.

But Firdaus and his wife found it difficult to remove the colours, which had stained the cat's fur.

They also did not shower the cat due to limited facilities and the possibility of stressing it out.

"Well-behaved and sweet"

In the process of the clean-up, the couple learned that the cat was "well-behaved and sweet", leading Firdaus to believe that the culprit "took advantage of [its] soft character".

Even though they could not bring the cat home, an outpouring of concern has led them to reveal the cat's exact whereabouts.

Offenders guilty of animal cruelty will be liable to a fine of up to S$15,000 and/or a jail term of up to 18 months.
