The sweltering Japanese summer is coming and McDonald's is cooling things down.

McDonald's Japan has announced it is going to start serving Calpis shakes from June 27, 2018.

It is priced at 120 yen (S$1.48) for a small and 200 yen (S$2.47) for a large, and will be available for a limited, undisclosed time.

The Calpis McShake was available in 2017.

But McDonald’s has said it decided to tweak the taste to make it slightly less sweet and more tart this time to reflect the unique taste of Calpis.

Calpis, which is well-loved by the Japanese for its yogurt flavour, is known as Calpico overseas to appeal to non-Japanese speakers. (Probably because Calpis sounds like it has the word "piss" in it.)

It is a yogurt-like beverage, usually mixed with water, and is sometimes carbonated.

Prices of regular bottled Calpis drinks in Singapore have been falling over the years due to its wider availability at places such as Don Don Donki.
