Parent loses Gudetama EZ-Link card with sentimental value, S'poreans online offer their cards

The internet can be a nice place too.

We all have one or two things which hold special meaning to us, and it can be truly devastating when we lose them.

Gift from older daughter

For one Redditor known as Holeshot75, it was a Gudetama EZ-Link card that got away.

While the poster did not reveal his/her gender, we will assume a "he" for the purpose of this story.

Hoping to be reunited with the lost transport card, Holeshot75 took to the local section of the forum for help — even though he knew it was a "crazy long shot".

The EZ-Link card was apparently a gift from his older daughter when she visited him in Singapore two years ago.

Sadly, Holeshot75 wrote that this daughter is "not with us anymore."

And even though chances are slim, he holds out hope that the person who took it (assuming somebody did) will return the card.

Younger daughter lost card

The Redditor explained that his younger daughter borrowed the EZ-Link card from him as she had left hers at home.

While travelling from Bedok Reservoir to her home, the child sat down to wait for the train and put the card down on the seat.

It was about 2.15pm on Sunday, May 20.

She did not realise that the EZ-link card had been left behind until she reached the other end of the MRT line.

While his younger daughter felt bad for losing the card, Holeshot75 expressed that it's mostly his fault:

"I shouldn't have used it and gave it to her for just one trip.....but I did, and now it's gone. She feels very badly but I feel it's mostly my fault for allowing the card to get away from me."

MRT staff could not do anything

The MRT staff could not do anything but to block the card and transfer the balance, the Redditor explained.

Even though the card had about S$17 on it, the parent was not concerned with the money — he simply wants the card back.

Holeshot75 added that the space in his wallet serves as a sad reminder of the older daughter:

"Every time I opened my wallet it was there and reminded me of her. But now I have an empty space where it was."

Redditors offer their own Gudetama cards

In response to the post, some kind forum-users have offered to give Holeshot75 their own Gudetama EZ-Link cards.

this is the design i have. I know it is not the same, but let me know if you want it.

PersonalPlanet I got couple of them with me as well (different design from this, don't have pics now) u/Holeshot75. Would be happy to give if you feel that could help.

Feel better.

CanIHaveBoobs What design is it? I might still have mine that I don't mind giving you if it might hold the same sentimental value to you

Moved by this gesture, Holeshot75 thanked everyone for their kind support.

In the likely event that the card is not returned, he wrote, he would be open to accepting someone's donated card:

Thank you so for your support and responses!

I'm overwhelmed at the care and consideration.

There's many here that know of the card because they have one from a couple of years ago also.

At first I thought that I couldn't have a different card even if it was the same but now I think I could. I told my younger daughter who lost it that people here were willing to give us their cards and she felt better over that. I realized that if she can that I can too.

I'll hold out some hope that maybe it comes back to me but in the likely event it doesn't I'll gladly accept someone's help if they wanted to donate a Gudetama card.

Thank you again.
