Boy, 7, dies after being run over by SMRT bus

Bus driver currently assisting with police investigations .

A seven-year-old boy who was run over by a bus while crossing the road at Choa Chu Kang has succumbed to his injuries at National University Hospital (NUH).

The accident occurred on May 24, 2018 along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 towards Choa Chua Kang Avenue 4.

The boy was pinned under the rear wheel of the bus.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers at the scene had to use vacuum lifting equipment to prop up the bus to extract the boy.

The police were alerted to the incident at 9.05am.

According to eyewitness accounts, there was "a lot of blood flowing under the bus".

Other eyewitness accounts reported hearing screams and shouts, as well as a woman standing next to the bus in a state of shock.

She is believed to be related to the boy.

The unconscious boy was conveyed to National University Hospital (NUH) where he passed away.

According to a statement by the police, the driver, a 57-year-old man, is currently assisting the police with investigations.

The police has requested the public not to circulate images and videos of the late 6-year-old boy at the accident scene out of respect for his family.
