Filipinos freaking out about meeting President Duterte at Jurong East Big Box Mall

They love their president.

It is beyond any doubt that Filipinos in Singapore love their president.

Thousands of Filipinos working here have turned up in force at Big Box Mall in Jurong East on Saturday April 28, just to meet the Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte in person.

Many have come as early as 1.30pm to join the queue for the security clearance.

President Duterte is in Singapore for the 32nd Asean summit and took the opportunity to meet with one of his key constituents, the overseas Filipino workers, also known as OFWs.

The event venue, Zepp@BigBox Hall, is fitting: It is a concert venue that is typically reserved for music acts pulling off high-production value shows.

Some 6,000 people are allowed inside for the Duterte meeting.

Based on videos and photos posted live on social media even before Duterte's arrival in Jurong East where he is scheduled to turn up at 7pm, it appears the setting is not far off from a concert, with live performances and merchandise going on sale.
