We're not sure which it is — if people are becoming increasingly inconsiderate or if social media vigilantes are simply becoming increasingly noisy online.

But in an incident that happened on Friday (Apr. 27) evening, the driver of a red Mercedes A-Class wagon allegedly refused to move his vehicle out of the sheltered pick-up/ drop-off point to make room for others.

Raining heavily, had to drop-off elderly father

According to one Facebook user (who has since taken down the public post he wrote), the incident happened at an estate in Eunos Crescent.

It was raining heavily and he (the Facebook user, or FU) was trying to drop his elderly father, who uses a wheelchair, off at the sheltered area.

However, the Mercedes driver who had parked there allegedly refused to budge — even after the taxi behind him sounded his horn, FU shared with Mothership.

Since FU was stuck behind the taxi, he got down from his car (in the rain) so that he could request for the Mercedes driver to make a loop, which would allow the taxi and himself to drop their passengers off at the sheltered space.

However, this was the response FU got:

"... he [the Mercedes driver) didn’t even wind down the window, instead, he gestured with his finger that I should use my brain to alight my dad without him getting wet!"

Resorted to reversing into drop-off point

FU eventually resorted to driving around to the front and reversing into the drop-off point, in front of the Mercedes.

At this, he alleges that the Mercedes driver started recording his actions on video, and even threatened to report him to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police for dangerous driving.

FU told Mothership he doesn't plan to take action or submit evidence against the Mercedes driver, though — unless the latter files a report and he hears from the LTA or Traffic Police about charges of unsafe driving.

You can read FU's Facebook post below (identities redacted by us):

Stopped on double-yellow lines

By the way, here's the full picture FU had taken (with the driver's car plate and face censored as well):

Yep, those are double-yellow lines the Mercedes is clearly stationed along. And according to the LTA's rules under Singapore law, parking is strictly prohibited along unbroken double-yellow lines:

"Under the Road Traffic Act, 'Park' means to bring a motor vehicle or a trailer to a stationary position and cause it to wait for any purpose other than that of immediately taking up or setting down persons, goods or luggage.

Unbroken double yellow lines are laid down on the road: No parking at all times on this road."

So if everything the Facebook user has alleged is true, this driver was not only being inconsiderate to other road users — he was also breaking the law.

Nonetheless, one should note that this is a one-sided account, and we have yet to hear anything from the Mercedes driver.
