So, it turns out that Gordon Ramsay will not have to learn colourful Mandarin phrases after all.
In a press statement released on April 2 by Mediacorp, MasterChef Singapore confirmed the local version of the reality cooking show will not be aired on Channel 8, as previously reported back in Feb. 2018.
Instead, Singaporean viewers will be able to watch it on Channel 5 later this year.
Fluency in Mandarin
There was quite a stir when hopeful applicants noticed that the online application form asked contestants to rate their fluency in Mandarin, on a scale of one to five.
This led to concerns that non-Mandarin-speaking contestants might find it more difficult to compete on the show.
The press release stated that as English rights were originally unavailable, the show was set to air on Channel 8.
But after further negotiations, MasterChef Singapore apparently obtained the right to broadcast on Channel 5 and in English.
There has also been an extension to the deadline for applications.

Still can apply
Previously, the casting call deadline was March 25. However, this has been pushed back to midnight on April 6, 2018.
Filming is expected to commence at the end of April 2018.
The panel of judges has yet to be finalised, but let's hope that everyone's favourite UK chef will make at least one appearance.
What wouldn't we give for Ramsay to deliver an epic smackdown to someone who made tau suan with baked beans.
