Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, whose iconic vocals gave the world Linger and Zombie, has passed away suddenly at the age of 46.

Her body was found at London's Park Lane hotel.

A Metropolitan police statement read: “At this early stage the death is being treated as unexplained.”

Her publicist also confirmed the news with a statement: "Irish and international singer Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London today. She was 46 years old. The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries, was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time.

Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

O'Riordan's current band mates, Noel Hogan, Fergal Lawler, and Mike Hogan, paid tribute to her on social media.

The band was on an European tour last year but had to cancel the remaining shows in May because of O'Riordan's back problem.

She posted an update on her health in December last year, saying that she's "feeling good".

The Cranberries, founded in 1989, shot to fame with their 1993 debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? and went on to sell over 40 million records worldwide.
