It has begun: E-scooter rider arrested after allegedly running over woman at Chinatown MRT

The lady is reportedly from Taiwan, here on holiday with her family.

Guess this was inevitable: an e-scooter rider has knocked a person down, after months of many, many others riding recklessly and illegally on roads and expressways.

On Jan. 27,  a 34-year-old man was arrested after the e-scooter he was riding allegedly knocked a woman over at Chinatown MRT station, injuring her.

He is being investigated for a case of a rash act causing hurt.

The incident took place at around 4pm on Friday, Jan. 26. The police arrested the suspect at the scene, and seized his e-scooter as well.

Not on the itinerary

According to Lianhe Zaobao, the woman, understood to be 45 years old, is a tourist from Taiwan, here with her family for a visit. She had reportedly just exited the station when she was allegedly hit from behind.

According to the SCDF, the woman was taken to Singapore General Hospital with minor injuries.

Police investigation is ongoing.

Anyone convicted of committing a rash act causing hurt can be jailed up to a year, fined up to $5,000, or both.
