McDonald's has launched the McVegan burger in Sweden and Finland on Dec. 28, 2017.

Vegan ingredients

The sandwich comprises a soy patty, bun, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onion, ketchup, mustard, oil and an egg-less sandwich sauce.

The burger will be on the permanent menu in the two countries, as a result of more people eating a plant-based diet.

The sandwich was previously tested at locations in Finland.

Consumer responses have been positive.

The burger has been described as "decent" and has "good flavours".

The patty has also been described as tasting "like a normal, regular hamburger".

It retails for about US$5.80, or about S$7.80.

Will it be sold outside of Sweden and Finland?

There is no indication that the new burger will be brought to the United States or Singapore.

The meatless burger was developed as a partnership with Norwegian food company Orkla.

It could help the fast food chain capitalise on demand for both vegetarian and vegan options.

There are currently very limited vegetarian or vegan options. The McVegan might fill the gap.
