If movies had to deal with MRT train breakdowns

Not even Hollywood can handle this.

Our good ol' MRT system has been under a bit of a cloud recently.

It isn't just simple breakdowns and delays -- these days, commuters have to contend with floods, collisions, and even bolts of lightning from the heavens.

It got us thinking about how certain movie plots would turn out if every train was replaced by an MRT train.

A delayed train might make things better -- or maybe even worse.

1. Matrix: Reloaded

Neo, the saviour of humanity, waits in an empty train station underground. It is a self-contained world with no escape.

Meanwhile, his partner and love Trinity is coming for him, on another train.

He waits. She waits. Eventually they realise they can't meet, as her train has broken down.

The machines overrun Zion and doom humanity.

2. Batman Begins

Batman learns that Ra's Al Ghul, his former mentor and teacher, plans to attack Gotham by crashing a train into Wayne Tower.

He catches up to the leader of the League of Shadows, and then they grapple on the train.

Just as Batman gets the upper hand, he realises the train is about to crash.

"I won't kill you...but I don't have to save you," he growls. Then he Bat-vanishes.

Ra's prepares calmly for his impending death -- and realises the train has broken down. It won't crash, but he won't die either.

He gets the heck out of there and lives to fight another day.

3. Back to the Future: 3

Doc and Marty are trapped in 1885, with no way of going back home. The DeLorean has run out of gas and can't get up to 88 miles per hour.

Doc devises a plan to use a locomotive to push the DeLorean along the tracks so it can reach the required speed.

Just before the time machine reaches 88mph, the train breaks down.

Marty is stuck in 1885. His skateboarding skills are of little use in the Wild West.

4. Your Name

Taki and Mitsuha save the town's residents from death by meteor strike.

But here's the twist -- they were separated by time as well as distance! (Spoiler alert)

Taki and Mitsuha recognise each other when their trains draw parallel. Taki feels drawn to this strange girl.

He wants to get off at the next stop and talk to her.

But alas, the train breaks down before it reaches the stop.

Taki has to walk along the tracks. He does not find Mitsuha.

5. Inception

"You're waiting for a train. A train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you. But you can't know for sure. Yet it doesn't matter. Now tell me why!"

"Because the train stopped. Let's get off this track."

"Ok."

6. Sliding Doors

Helen experiences two parallel universes, which diverge from the point where she enters the train station.

In one universe, she catches her train and through a complicated series of events, dies. (Spoiler alert)

In the other, she misses her train, and through a complicated series of events, finds true love. (Also spoiler alert)

In the MRT universe, she boards her train but gets stuck after it breaks down. She could still either die or find true love.

7. Train to Busan

The train never reaches Busan. Everybody gets eaten by zombies.
