Yishun flat shamelessly advertised on Carousell as being in same block as President Halimah's home

Yishun never fails to amaze us every single day.

Everybody knows that Halimah Yacob is staying in her Yishun Ave 4 HDB flat instead of the Istana.

But did you know that you can live in the same block for just S$460,000?

One Lawrence Ng, a property agent, put up this Carousell listing for a unit sneakily dubbed in its cover picture as "Yistana" on Saturday, Sep. 16:

In the listing's description, however, we see that it is, quite obviously, not the Yistana:

"HDB FLAT NEAR YISTANA"

We asked Ng if the flat was at the fifth floor, since it was advertised as being "one floor below" the sixth storey, where President Halimah's jumbo flat is. He responded via text message:

"This is private information. I have to protect the interest of my client so this I absolutely cannot reveal. If you're really keen, please arrange an appointment with me to find out."

We asked him how many rooms the apartment had, and in response, he said, "Uh."

According to a report in The New Paper, though, Ng said the flat is a five-room corner apartment, three floors below President Halimah's home. Its owner, a civil servant surnamed Wong, planned to sell the flat before learning that Halimah would become Head of State.

"They've been wanting to sell their place for some time already... trust me, it has nothing to do with Halimah's presidency."

He told Mothership that response to his property's listing, which was put up on PropertyGuru as well, has been "overwhelming", but whether or not they are serious buyers is "(his) job to find out".

Shamelessly riding on presidential coattails

Of course, Ng in his listing boasts the block's "extremely tight security", while acknowledging a lack of parking spaces — as we know, a bunch of them are reserved (just like the election) for police vehicles and the one chauffeuring President Halimah too:

And if you happen to go out around the same time as the President, you may have to face a situation like this:

Perhaps Halimah's home is Making Yishun Great Again

Listings like this do kind of suggest the possibility that President Halimah's presence in Yishun may just lend a positive impact on housing prices and demand there.

It may be on the third floor, but is a corner unit — a highly sought-after characteristic for house hunters.

And unlike the reserved election, anyone can purchase the humble abode because there is no ethnic integration policy for that unit, as of yet.

The location is convenient too with Northpoint City, a megamall in Yishun, opening by the end of the year.

Yishun is also ideal for families with children because of neighbourhood schools like Northland Primary School, Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) and even a school for children with special needs — Rainbow Centre Yishun Park School.

Who knows? We can only wait and see if it really does prove to become a less dangerous neighbourhood eventually.
