Two Singaporean men have been hailed as heroes for putting out a fire that engulfed a taxi in the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel on Tuesday evening, Aug. 29.

Here is a video of the taxi exploding:

Driving through KPE

The two friends, Syed Abdillah Zain Alhabshee (above, in black) and Fuad Aziz (above, in stripes), were driving through the KPE tunnel at that time, when they witnessed a TransCab taxi that was on fire.

Both also happen to have experience in medical emergency response.

Syed Abdillah is the director of First Medic Training and Ambulance Services, while Fuad is a manager at Medlink Services.

Used water hose

As traffic slowed to a crawl, they stopped their vehicle in the tunnel.

To put out the flame, the pair grabbed the nearest water hose they could find.

The pair were assisted by another motorist, and a group of about seven Ghurka soldiers who had stopped to help as well.

The blaze was kept under control using the water from the hose, before officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived.

KPE traffic came to a standstill

As a result of the vehicle fire, traffic came to a standstill and motorists got out of their cars to film the unusual scene.
