S'pore lady books UberX ride from Harbourfront to Sentosa, ends up on hour-long road trip instead

It should've been no more than a five-minute journey.

It's always important to preface incidents like this with the disclaimer that a single incident is not indicative of the nature of an entire company, or its fleet of drivers.

That being said, what an incident.

Twitter user Reg posted snapshots of a trip she took from Harbourfront MRT to Sentosa Development Corp.

This is the route Uber showed her:

Pay close attention to the given route. Note how it is direct, and doesn't seem like childish scribbles.

The price estimate was around S$5.46.

Which is quite consistent with what we found when booking the exact same route on Uber's fare estimation website:

So, no harm, no foul right?

Nope.

This is the eventual path the Uber driver decided upon:

Slightly different.

With the price nearly doubling from the estimated fare.

The time for the trip taken was, in all likelihood, also doubled.

The worst part was Reg, who works at Sentosa, probably knew better than the driver the best route to take, but the driver was having none of it.
