A 21-year-old man was last week arrested at his home after he was spotted wielding a realistic-looking toy gun (the one pictured above) at Bugis MRT station.
The police, in a statement shared with the media on Tuesday afternoon, said he was seen and reported to be carrying it on Tuesday, March 15 at about 1:10pm.
"Acting on the information provided, extensive police resources were mobilised (emphasis ours) to identify the subject and he was subsequently arrested at his home in Toa Payoh on the same day."
We wonder how many people the term "extensive police resources" refers to, and by extension how many police officers' time was wasted in searching for the fella and apprehending him, considering they would have been acting on the impression that he was carrying a real firearm.
And after all that, it turns out that the "object" he was arrested for holding is a toy that he bought online, as preliminary investigations showed.
The young man, who wasn't named (neither was his nationality stated), is now being investigated for causing public alarm, police added.
