The overall in charge of the Smart Nation initiative Vivian Balakrishnan geeked out with a bunch of  T-shirt wearing geeks at an aptly named event called Geek Camp at the National University of Singapore (NUS) yesterday.

Channeling his inner Mark Zuckerberg, the Environment and Water Resources Minister went for the techie vibe with a black T-shirt, blue jeans, Macbook, complete with a pair of unassuming loafers.

Also making an appearance was Li Hongyi, commonly known as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's second son.

Not to be outgeeked, the 28-year-old who is currently working at the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore went one up with a Google T-shirt that proved to be immensely popular.

Li spent two years working as a product manager at Google, as part of a programme allowing scholars to spend a stint in the private sector before starting work in the Public Service.

The duo were presenting data.gov.sg, which is a repository of geek data presented in relatively understandable terms.

Looks totally like a keynote address in Silicon Valley.

Minister Vivian wrote on Facebook:

"http://beta.data.gov.sg is a live beta of Singapore’s open-data platform. It presents and visualises data related to various areas such as transport, healthcare, education etc. Several agencies continue to enhance the quality and make available such Government data.

I believe in a ‪#‎SmartNation‬ with an open source society and immense opportunities; where everyone can share, participate and co-create solutions to enrich and improve quality of life for ourselves and our fellow Singaporeans."

In its beta form, the website – probably the best-looking government website ever– wrote that the aim is to show "how data can be relevant to the layman".
