Last week, DC comics broke the news about their upcoming movies from year 2016 to 2020. The impressive list includes a stand-alone Wonder Woman movie, the first female-led superhero movie to be announced (your move, Marvel!).

Staring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, it will be released on June. 23 2017, making it one of the most anticipated summer movies of 2017.

From the mouth of film director Zack Snyder, Gadot is the best candidate for the role because she is “an amazing actress … [with] that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role”.

Which Singapore woman will have the "magical quality" to be our Wonder Woman?

Here are ten candidates in Singapore who could bear the mantle of the fan-favourite.

1. Singer Sylvia Ratonel

Famous for her voice, Ratonel is the first female finalist for Singapore Idol and eventually came in second in the third season of the singing competition.

She is also Singapore’s first celebrity ambassador for Maybelline New York.

Super power: Attractive female, looks a bit like Gal Gadot.

Her directorial debut, Already Famous, earned more than $1 million at the local box office when it opened here in December 2011. She also directed a second film 3 Peas In A Pod last year.

4. Opposition MP Sylvia Lim

Sylvia Lim is currently the Chairperson of the opposition Workers’ Party (WP), and an elected Member of Parliament (MP). In fact, she is the first female elected MP not from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP). She is also one of the 20 elected female MPs in Parliament.

Nadya Hutagalung is a multi-talented woman with several accolades under her belt. She is a host, model and film actress.

She is well-known in Singapore as an environmental activist as well as the current host of Asia’s Next Top Model.

As an environmental activist, Nadya c0-founded GreenKampong, an online resource for information and news on sustainable living. She is also Singapore’s Ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour for the last five years.

Super power: Attractive female, looks a bit like Gal Gadot. Has the magical quality to pursue conservation.

Halimah Yacob is an elected Member of Parliament from the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP), the first Malay woman to be elected as an MP.

She is the ninth Speaker of Parliament, having assumed office on 14th January 2013. She is also the first female speaker in Parliament, after the resignation of Speaker Michael Palmer.

She was inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO), whose aims are to recognise and salute the outstanding women of Singapore in all fields of endeavour. She was also Her World Magazine’s “Woman of the Year” in 2004.

Super power: Ability to ask MPs to shut up and sit down (The speaker of parliament ensures the orderly conduct of parliamentary business).

7. Host and actress Wong Li-Lin

Wong Li-Lin is a host and actress who starred in The Leap Years, directed by Jean Yeo.

She disappeared from the limelight for a while because she accompanied husband Allan Wu to Shanghai.

But she has returned to Singapore as a single mum to her 8-year-old daughter Sage and 7-year-old son Jonas. She has developed a fitness and wellness programme and an exercise band - Loopz Fitness. Her well-defined body is the best testament to her fitness programme.

She is a sports shooter, specializing in the 10-metre air rifle event. She recently won Gold for the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions in the Commonwealth Games.

9. Singapore Women’s Everest team

The Singapore Women’s Everest Team consists of six young women, namely Jane Lee, Sim Yi Hui, Esther Tan, Lee Peh Gee, Joanne Soo and Lee Li Hui.

Out of the team of six, only Sim Yi Hui did not make it onto the summit due to costochondritis.

Other than Mount Everest, the team also climbed five other mountains in preparation of the final ascent up the world’s tallest mountain.

Super power: Endurance power, stamina, and team spirit.

10. Former Opposition candidate Nicole Seah

In case you are not one of her 113,000 FB fans, Nicole Seah was the new candidate fielded by National Solidarity Party (NSP) for the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the 2011 general elections.

She enjoyed public admiration and adoration during the elections with many even saying that she might have won had Marine Parade been a Single Member Constituency (SMC).
