A 49-year-old man has been arrested in the Malaysian state of Johor over a video that showed two children riding on the back of a car Superman-style.

According to The Malay Mail, the man was arrested on the night of July 21, at his house in Pasir Gudang.

Three boys, aged between 10 and 12, were also reported as having given their statements to the police, while the suspect's car, a Toyota Vios, was seized.

The New Straits Times (NST) reported that one of the children has since been identified as the suspect's son, while the other two boys have been identified as the children of the man's neighbour.

What did the video show?

On July 20, a six-second video was uploaded to Facebook, by user Chitran Tamil Chelvan, in which two children were seen clinging to the back of a car as it moved down the road.

Additionally, the car was also seen beating a red light.

Fulfilling a request by his son

Johor Road Transport Department director Razali Wagiman further stated that the man had confessed to fulfilling a wish by his son, NST reported.

The man also confessed to beating the red light and confirmed that his son was one of the two children who had sat on the rear windshield of the car.

As such, two summons have since been issued against the man, for reckless driving and beating a red light.

Johor state executive condemns actions

The man's actions drew condemnation from Johor state executive councillor Liow Cai Tung, The Malay Mail further reported.

Calling for firm action, Liow said that such actions should not be tolerated by authorities and that parents had to be more responsible in educating children on road safety.

As per Liow:

"The recent incident of two children clinging to the back of a car at Taman Scientex in Pasir Gudang was not supposed to happen.

It’s a dangerous stunt involving children as well as endangering other road users."
