S'pore F&B establishments milking Trump-Kim summit by coming up with anything edible

Yes, gun for the free publicity.

On June 12, United States president Donald Trump and Supreme Leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un will meet for a summit right here in Singapore.

The significance of this event is definitely not lost on the capitalist-minded, as many food and beverage establishments here have been quick to jump on the bandwagon to introduce limited edition summit-themed menus.

Here's a rundown of some of items offered by 9 F&B establishments:

1. Wolf Burgers

Wolf Burgers are offering the not-so-subtly named "The Burger for World Peace", which is basically beef bulgogi, kimchi mayo, lettuce, cheese and a pickle.

The burger place really went all out, even writing an open invitation to Trump and Kim in hopes that they will try the item:

How much: S$12.90

Where: Pasarbella Suntec City, #01-455 North Wing, or Changi City Point, #01-43

2. The Butcher's Kitchen

The Butcher's Kitchen is offering the redneck-leaning "Cowboy Kimchi Burger".

The name is a big spoiler on what to expect — burger with kimchi added in the middle. Mind blowing, really.

How much: S$18.80

Where: Suntec City, North Wing #02-472

3. The Beast

Offering yet another burger is The Beast cafe with the punny "#Worldbeast burger".

And because they are creative like that, the burger is a literal fusion of American and Korean cuisines.

Half the burger is made of fried mac and cheese buns, beef patty, bacon jam and BBQ sauce, while the other half is made of deep fried kimchi rice buns, bulgogi beef patty, caramelised onions, and creamy garlic sauce.

How much: S$23

Where: 17 Jalan Klapa

4. Harmony Nasi Lemak

Standing out from the crowd with a more local offering, Harmony Nasi Lemak is offering the Trump-KIMchi dry-aged beef nasi lemak.

It says on their Facebook page that they specifically chose US dry-aged beef and kimchi as representative of the two cultures coming together in Singpore (the nasi lemak).

We're not sure why they thought it'd make a good combination though.

And at S$21, it's much more expensive than their usual items, which are priced from S$6 — S$11.

How much: S$21

Where: Suntec City Tower 1, 01-510/511

5. Sinfonia Ristorante

This is probably a dish more suited to those with expensive tastes.

"The R.W.B" or the "Red, White and Blue" is a platter including Japanese Wagyu beef topped with caviar, deep fried chicken slider with aioli sauce and sweet chilli sauce, and a side of blue cheese sauce to go with the dishes.

Explosion in your mouth, explosion in your wallet.

How much: S$42++

Where: Sinfonia Ristorante, #01-01 Victoria Concert Hall

6. Royal Plaza on Scotts

It's back to burgers with the Royal Plaza on Scotts, offering the "Trump-Kim Burger".

The patty here is replaced with chicken and kimchi, and the burger is served with kimbap (Korean rice rolls) and fries.

Accompanying the burger is the summit iced tea which is a blend of Korean honey yuzu and iced tea (which was supposedly popularised in America).

How much:  The Trump-Kim Burger — S$12++; The Summit Iced Tea — S$6++

Where: Scotts Lounge, Royal Plaza on Scotts, Level 2

7. Lucha Loco

Being a Mexican joint, Lucha Loco is offering two themed tacos.

One taco is named "Rocket Man Taco" and includes Korean fried chicken, spicy dressing, pickled white radish and sesame.

On the other hand, the "El Trumpo Taco" is basically a burger made with a tortilla instead of a bun.

At S$10++ each, however, they cost a bomb.

How much: S$10++

Where: 15 Duxton Hill

8. Escobar

Escobar is offering a whole range of summit themed food and drinks including red and blue cocktails, a summit "peace-za" and yet another burger.

In essence, things they're already selling but in a different colour.

And this is probably as tasteless as some of the things on this list:

It includes diet Coke, white grape soju, tequila, and Asahi black.

Cry for publicity?

Even without closer scrutiny, one might be able to tell that the so-called culinary tributes sound a lot like desperate cries for publicity (which... is what we're giving them right now).

Most of the menu items are just some combination of beef and kimchi, in the form of whatever they happen to sell.

But we can definitely agree with one thing — Singapore businesses sure know how to make full use of an opportunity.

Now that we're done discussing the companies that are exploiting the summit by cashing in, please feel free to buy the t-shirt that we made for the summit:
