Remember the times when we didn't own a walkman or a portable music player? We would listen to music on the radio, singing along to our favourite tunes.

Many years have passed since then and we have all grown older. However, certain hit songs earworms are truly unforgettable.

Here are some songs from the 90s that accompanied us through every milestone growing-up event:

1. Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way (1999)

This song was so huge it reached #1 in over 25 countries, making it the most successful song from a vocal group and boy band.

2. Natalie Imbruglia - Torn (1997)

Natalie Imbruglia's first album featuring 'Torn' secured three Grammy nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the lead single 'Torn', and Best New Artist.

3. Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time (1999)

Britney is the undisputed princess of pop of her time. Her song '...Baby One More Time' is one of the best-selling singles of all time, with over 10 million copies sold.

4. Chumbawamba - Tubthumping (1997)

This song was by the band Chumbawamba - A British band that you've probably never heard of until this song. The most prominent (and perhaps the most famous!) line of the song is ‘I get knocked down’.

5. All-4-One - I Swear (1994)

We all know this version but surprise, surprise... It is actually a cover! The original singer made it popular on the Country music chart just a year prior to All-4-One propelling the song to fame with their rendition.

6. Hanson - Mmmbop (1997)

The title doesn’t make sense, but it was one of the songs that really got the pop genre going in the mid-late 90s.

7. Take That - Back For Good (1995)

Take That was an English pop music group that formed in 1990. Robbie Williams was part of this group but left the band in 1995. The band eventually split up in 1996.

More than 10 years later, Boyce Avenue did a cover of this song. Nothing beats the original though.

8. Fool’s Garden - Lemon Tree (1995)

No song says ‘One-Hit Wonder’ better than Lemon Tree. Another popular version of this song was a Mandarin cover by Taiwanese singer Tarcy Su.

9. Los Del Rio - Macarena (1995)

There was once a time when doing the dance was cool - This song showed the world that terrible dance moves are okay as long as the song is insanely popular.

10. Smile - Butterfly (1998)

The catchy tune was the anthem of our teenage years.

Ai yai yai...

11. Aqua - Barbie Girl (1997)

The lyrics of the song are about Barbie and Ken, the Mattel dolls.

In 2000, there was a legal controversy when Mattel claimed that the song violated their trademark, but nobody really remembers the details from the lawsuit these days. All we remember are the lyrics and catchy beat!

12. Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply (1997)

Even though they were known for other hits like 'I Want You' and 'To The Moon And Back', 'Truly Madly Deeply' was their signature song.

The band, unfortunately for many of us, split up in the 2000s.

Got feels right?
