Taxi hits van head-on in parking lot then reverses straight into HDB block

Out of control.

In what seems like a teenager playing Grand Theft Auto, this taxi driver engaged in some pretty head-scratching driving.

The taxi, a Trans-Cab, first nudges the white van onto the sidewalk and off the parking spot.

Before reversing full speed, straight into the side of an HDB block.

A phenomenon known as "Sudden Unintended Acceleration" was speculated to be the blame for a spate of taxi accidents in Singapore, where the vehicles appeared to lurch forward and backward in an out of control fashion.

However, according to the Land Transport Authority in September 2016, those taxi accidents were not the result of mechanical fault after four months of investigations.

But in February 2017, a taxi was seen outside Old Changi Airport Road moving in an out of control fashion.

Speculation was rife that the taxi malfunctioned as a result of a mechanical fault.
