Go play with this funky pop-up jukebox at the mall if you come across it, because #supportlocal

And vote for your favourite old-school song while you're at it.

Jukeboxes are hard to come by these days. Back in the 80s, they were the coolest things to be seen with. So the next time you happen to see the following jukebox at JCube, Plaza Singapura, or Tampines Mall, do have a go at this archaic thing.

What this particular jukebox is for

And if you decide to heed our advice and play with the jukebox, you'd notice that the songs on it are actually as old-school as the installation looks. Songs from the 1960s to 2000s, to be exact. And not just regular oldies, but 25 original tunes by Singaporean artistes in the past like Roses by Gingerbread and Girl From Katong by Serenaide.

The best part is, you could vote for your favourite out of the 25.

The pop-up jukebox will be at the following places:

Asia Square, The Cube (June 5 to 8)

JCube (June 9 to 11)

Plaza Singapura (June 12 to 15)

Tampines Mall (June 16 to 18)

Also, maybe you could also bump into chiobus like them:

Pop-Up Noise: The Great Singapore Replay's first voting booth is up at Raffles City! Come vote for your favourite Singapore classic hit from now till Jun 4! #tgsr2017

But if you're the stay-at-home type who doesn't like going to malls, you could also go to this online jukebox to listen and vote.

So what happens after voting takes place? Here's the exciting part.

The Great Singapore Replay

If you think the Singaporean music scene is dead, think again.

As part of "Pop-up Noise: The Great Singapore Replay", a project by the National Arts Council and Temasek to promote local talents, the top 10 favourite songs (voted by the public) will get remade by 10 pairs of young music artistes.

Each pair consists of an emerging artiste as well as an established artiste, who will then work together to bring a modern twist to the nostalgic hits.

At the same time, the established artistes will also be guiding their respective mentees in the world of the music scene.

Sara Wee, a seasoned musician who has been training aspiring musicians under the Noise Singapore Mentorship Programme for a while, said excitedly:

It's nice to be able to perform the song together with a mentee. This event will definitely help to boost the local music scene. 20 years ago, we wouldn't have something like this in Singapore, but now we have 987FM playing more local music, and events like this to develop the industry.

My mentee, Joie, and I will do our best to retain the meaning and the old-school feels of the chosen song, but we'll also tweak it a little by adding our own flavour to it.

Webisodes

The top 10 classic hits will be revealed on July 13, and this will be done via the first webisode of the series. Weekly webisodes featuring the 10 artistes collaborations will also be aired on The Great Singapore Replay website.
