Tampines petrol kiosk with full-service café & bicycle bay could be the future of all petrol kiosks

Yep, it's the one with the 24-hour McDonald's drive-thru.

Starting June 12, a petrol station in Tampines will offer an experience we hope will eventually be replicated across our island.

Now, we've already told you about the new 24-hour McDonald’s drive-thru there...

... but you can also go there for other food now — and not just snacks in the mini-mart, which is now vastly expanded:

The pastries here, they say, are baked on-site every day, with unique flavours like Thai Green Curry Pie and Firecracker Sausage Roll:

You can also get yourself a full meal here — they've got mee siam, spaghetti bolognaise, laksa pasta, tandoori chicken with biryani rice, and more — and at the seating area, you can also charge your devices:

And we told you this was a full-service café, right — because it even has an ice cream parlour, complete with unique flavours like "Nanyang Brekkie":

There are four flavours exclusive to this Shell station: Apple Pie a la Mode, Matcha Azuki, Chocolate Indulgence, Nanyang Brekkie

At $3.50 each, this no-frills scoop-and-croissant deal sounds pretty decent to us too.

As with other petrol stations, this Shell station has a NETS self-service kiosk, an AXS machine as well as a SingPost POPStation for packages.

Additional services for cars, and a free bicycle bay

Of course, this petrol station has a car wash:

As well as a service and repair station, if that might be needed:

But here, specially for cyclists, you'll also find a well-equipped and sheltered bicycle bay:

These tools hanging from the stand, a small air pump, and a tap at the bicycle bay, which has seven racks, are all free for your use.

And that's the idea, we suppose — you can safely park your bike at "Take a Brake" while you take a break at the café.

There is also a full-sized air pump at the entrance of the station, of course:

So this can be a good pitstop for cyclists going to Changi, East Coast or Bedok via the park connectors along Tampines Avenue 2.

Solar-powered lights, recycled rainwater

It's also good that with all these additional features, Shell's making the effort to conserve energy and water where possible. Their ceiling lights, for instance, are powered by sunlight:

Also, a large water tank at the back near the Drive-Thru harvests rainwater, used for watering the greenery at the station and flushing the toilets:

(Speaking of which, the station's toilets are publicly accessible, so you no longer need to go all the way in and awkwardly ask the counter staff for a key. #yay)

Remember how we said we hope this will be how all petrol kiosks in Singapore will look like in the future? Shell's taking the lead with this, and will be revamping all 57 of its stations islandwide over the next few years.

While the petrol kiosk is now operating, these cones will be entirely lifted come Monday, June 12 when Shell Select and Deli by Shell is opened:
