You probably saw this jukebox at Asia Square, then at JCube, and again at Plaza Singapura, and now it’s popped up at Tampines Mall.
Maybe you were shy and didn’t want to go up to it to get it to play a few songs. Or you were scared that you had to buy something in order to use the jukebox.
Fret not. The pop-up jukebox is free to use.
The reason why it’s free is because the jukebox is part of Pop-up Noise: The Great Singapore Replay (TGSR). TGSR set up a pop-up booth with the jukebox and wants you to decide which 10 Singapore classic hit songs will be remade by emerging artists who are mentored by established Singaporean musicians.
How it works and prizes to be won:
Simply go up to the jukebox, take your pick from 25 classic Singapore songs spanning the 1960s to 2000s, and have a listen.
If you like what you hear, vote for it.
If you’re a homebody who prefers to do things online, you can also visit TGSR’s website to vote online. Voting online puts you in the running to win an iPad mini, Spotify subscription or headphones by Beats.
TGSR is also rewarding people who head down to Tampines Mall this weekend (Jun 17 - 18) to vote. Visitors will get a chance to win this exclusive TGSR Lego set:
All they have to do is visit TGSR’s booth, snap a selfie with the jukebox, answer the question of the week presented at the booth, and post your selfie on Instagram with the #TGSR hashtag. TGSR will select the best entry to walk away with the prize.
What happens after you vote?
The 10 most popular songs will then be reimagined by Singaporean artists who are paired up - emerging and established artists.
Here they are:

But what if I’m unfamiliar with the 25 songs?
Don’t worry, we have you covered. TGSR’s website provides ample information on each song, but in case you’re in a rush, here’s how we categorised the songs:
Songs for when you’ve already found that somebody to love:
Circling Square - Humpback Oak
You’re the Boy - Shirley Nair & The Silver Strings
Songs that oddly remind us of The Smiths i.e. if your parents listened to these songs, they were probably hipsters in their time:
Songs to listen to after you’ve had your heart broken:
Paper Roses, Paper Dreams - Western Union Band
My Lonely Heart - The Thunderbirds
Come Home to Me - Shirley Nair & The Silver Strings
Don’t Want You Around Anymore - Mike & Herb
Songs to listen to when you’re experiencing an existential crisis:
Lost Boy or Girl - Humpback Oak
Sausalito - Western Union Band
Amazingly catchy songs you can’t help but groove to:
I Have Been a Fool - Mike & Herb
So hurry down to Tampines Mall this weekend (Jun 17 - 18).
Even if you’re not a big music fan, you can still up your Instagram game by snapping a photo with the jukebox and you may even win an exclusive Lego set to boot.
