S'pore’s 1st 'rage room' allows people to destroy things for a fee

Singaporeans are a stressed out bunch. It explains all the videos of people pushing and acting uncouth.

Therefore, when indulging in a spa treatment just doesn't cut it because it serves to quash vexations instead of releasing them, which in turn, could lead to repressed aggression, try something else.

In fact, someone wrote in to The Straits Times forum page on Jan. 1, 2017, suggesting that a "rage room", where people can release stress by smashing things, would be beneficial to burned out Singaporeans.

Guess what, forum writer? Your wish has been fulfilled because such a room has opened its doors in Balestier on May 2, 2017.

Beyond the serene-looking exterior lies the wrath of many stressed out people who will be coming here to wreck and throw stuff for cathartic effect.

Singapore's own rage room

The Fragment Room is a space that allows people to liberate through anger therapy.

And no, not the kind of anger therapy where a counsellor sits you down and teaches you how to manage anger. Over here, it literally means dealing with your frustrations in an anger-fuelled way.

Encountered an inept driver on the road, got shouted at by your boss, or recently discovered that your partner's been cheating on you?

This is the place for you.

For S$38, patrons are entitled to one crate of breakables, which they can then destroy with a baseball bat for the next 30 minutes to their hearts' content.

Other packages include "Double" (S$75), a two-player session that comes with twice the amount of breakables, and "Annihilation" (S$220), which is a 60-minute session with unlimited breakables meant for those who are really done with life.

Are you guys excited to come down? This could be you and your best pal. Do note that you have to be 18 and above to participate in all events here unless you come with your parent / guardian and have their consent. We know it's a pain but you have to be 18 to sign our indemnity form. - #thefragmentroom

The Fragment Room even offers corporate packages, perfect for working adults who are in the mood to wreak havoc together with the same people who ignited their fury.

Protective Gear

All sessions come with a set of of white overalls, helmet and/or full-face mask, cut-prove gloves, and a baseball bat or crowbar.

For an extra fee, customers can also choose to destroy in style with a Supreme crowbar or Yeezy 950 boots.

And the best part is that they can do all this while dramatic songs of their choice play in the background.

A growing trend

Although The Fragment Room is the first in Singapore, and possibly the whole of Southeast Asia, rage rooms have been all the rage (heh) in other parts of the world.

In the United States, a rage room business named Anger Room has even taken to creating custom setups such as faux retail stores, and offering mannequins dressed as Donald Trump for customers to thrash.

Seems like people are opting to visit rage rooms rather the shrink these days.

If there’s one equation every S’porean needs to understand, it’s how public transport fares are calculated
